Description
This Prelude is one of the most beloved works of Chopin. It was so beloved that it was performed at his funeral. Yet, considering its modest difficulty, it is one of the most demanding of the set of Preludes to interpret convincingly. One reason is a lack of dynamics. A second reason is that most musicians do not understand the meaning of hairpins during the romantic period of composition. The fact is, hairpins at that time denoted tempo fluctuations, including rubatos. In this interpretation, I tried to imagine how Chopin himself might have performed this piece.
